AFC U-23 Championship: Qatar 2 – 1 Iran

Iran lost to host Qatar 2-1 in the 2016 AFC U-23 Championship on Friday.

Mohammad Khakpour’s men, who started the campaign with a 2-0 victory over Syria, suffered a defeat to favorite Qatar at the Jassim Bin Hamad Stadium in Doha.
Ahmed Alaa opened the scoring for the Qatari football team in the 35th minute.
The Iranian team put Qatar under pressure to equalize the match but conceded a goal from the corner kick through Abdelkarim Hassan in the 56th minute.
Iran was awarded a penalty in the 69th minute but captain Rouzbeh Cheshmi failed to open the goal.
In the dying moments of the match, Ali Karimi reduced the deficit to 2-1.
Iran will face China on Monday, while Group A leader Qatar play Syria.
A total of 16 teams are battling for the three places available for Asian sides in Rio in Qatar from January 12 to 30 at four venues.
